Laurie Duckham-Shoor has expressed an abiding interest in art since she was a child, when she would sit at home poring over books on the works of familiar masters such as Monet, Dufy, and Picasso. Professional and familial concerns took precedence while she was a psychologist and mother, and she has only recently been able to act on her artistic impulses. Fortunately, Laurie's retirement has allowed her the opportunity to express her latent talents, and she remains enchanted by the therapeutic and instinctual qualities of painting.
Laurie chose her oeuvre based on its expressionistic and emotional capabilities. Because her abstractions have an absence of substantial form, color plays the primary role in forming the bond between artist and viewer. As a result, observation of the minute changes in hue and layering is key to appreciating the works, and Laurie is drawn to the concerted engagement that it takes to produce her art. She hopes that you enjoy her work.
Laurie accepts commissions--please contact her for more information.
